WebJun 5, 2016 · Vassals can help in two ways, either by being a different religion to you (so they can hold that religions land to avoid revolts) or being the same religion and having strong religious ideas - maybe you didn't go religious ideas and they did or maybe their national ideas include religious ones.

Just click the province and give control to your vassal. I think this is part of Art of War.
